What is Stabilized Sand, and Should You Consider It?

4/8/2022

Stabilized sand is a soil stabilization product treated with a stabilizer to create a sand mixture that will not shift or move. Stabilized sands are often mixed with cement or other ingredients to make them more durable.  Stabilized sand can be used for many applications, including landscaping and construction.
What are the Different Types of Stabilized Sand?

There are three types of stabilizers: wet stabilization, dry stabilization, and beach stabilizer. Wet stabilized sand is the most common type. This type of stabilized sand is used in areas with a lot of water, and the soil cannot be stabilized by other means. Beach stabilized sand is used for sandy beaches where it can be challenging to stabilize the sand with other methods. Dry stabilized sand is used in areas with a lot of loose soil and requires less water to set up than wet stabilization.

A Substitute For Natural Soil

Stabilized sand is often used instead of natural soil for many different projects. It is more stable and can be applied with less effort than natural soils. This means that you can use stabilized sand on sloped areas where the soil would have difficulty staying put. It also means that you will not need as much as you would need to fill the area as stabilized sand will stay in place better than natural soil would.

Should I Consider Using Stabilized Sand?

The benefits of using stabilized sand are numerous. It's more durable, which means it will last longer and need less maintenance. Stabilized sand can also withstand extreme weather conditions like rain or flooding, making it perfect for coastal areas. It's also environmentally friendly because it doesn't contain any harmful substances like arsenic or lead, and it can be recycled at the end of its life cycle. However, there are also disadvantages to using stabilized sand. It can be hard to work within certain situations, it can cause problems if not used correctly, and it can be difficult to find suppliers.
