What is Soil Stabilization?

4/14/2020

Soil stabilization is a method of improving the strength properties of soil by combining and mixing other materials. Soil in itself is a blend of minerals, organic matter, gases, liquids, and organisms that together support life on our planet, Earth. By increasing the strength of soil through soil stabilization, you increase the load bearing capacity of soil which supports pavements and foundations. There are numerous types of stabilization, but all of these methods fall into two categories: mechanical stabilization or chemical stabilization. Mechanical stabilization is the methodology which improves properties of soils without the addition of agents. Chemical stabilization on the other hand is a method that involves adding chemicals into the soil. The chemicals that are added help to change the soil properties. There are several types of additives used for chemical stabilization, but the choice of additive is based on the type of soil.
A soil that has not been stabilized tends to have loose particles which can be problematic for road construction, airfields, runways, parking lots, and historical sites, to name a few. If a road can not bear weight properly or stay in place when water is present, it will sink. The smaller the particle size, the more compact the soil becomes, thus creating a safe and solid foundation. The goal of stabilizing soil is to allow it have a higher strength, lower permeability and lower compressibility than the original soil. If you are looking for an innovative soil stabilizing partner, look no further than Environmental Products and Applications, Inc. is the leading soil stabilization company around the globe that offers lab-tested advanced polymer-based erosion & dust control products, which are used in numerous industries for a wide range of applications.

The Envirotac line of non-hazardous polymers, will seal the soil particles in place allowing the treated area to be strong and erosion resistant. Learn more about our soil stabilization solutions, and how for years the United States Military has been using our line of soil stabilization products.
